I had the honor of leading a free workshop hosted by the talented actor, director, and educator Bryce Dallas Howard. Throughout the workshop, we delved into the techniques for creating stunning abstract mixed-media paintings on watercolor backgrounds. Below, you can find some quotes from my students who participated in the workshop, as well as some who took private lessons with me.

Bryce Dallas Howard Says:

“Bindi is a gifted watercolor artist and teacher who has helped me take my love for this medium to new heights. Her budget-conscious approach and versatility with different techniques and styles have allowed me to experiment and grow as an artist. I feel incredibly fortunate to have her as my teacher, and I highly recommend Bindi to anyone who wants to discover the joy and beauty of watercolor or to deepen their love and skill of this beautiful art form.”

“Although Bindi mentions that her classes are not for beginners or more for advanced beginners, I really enjoy participating in her class, and I am a beginner!! I have no prior knowledge of drawing or painting, and I was able to follow the course of the class; I liked the dynamic and the relaxed vibes as well as the advice, tips, and suggestions, and the fact that she was interested in knowing what each person is struggling with, 100% recommended.”

Jules

I have always loved watercolor from afar, but starting to explore it on my own felt very intimidating. Bindi's classes and teaching style immediately made me feel like I could be a watercolor artist. She is direct but open to everyone interpreting the class in their own way. I'm always grateful for her suggestions and feedback because she sees things in my art and technique that I don't. I look forward to our time together every week and can't wait to see what kind of artist she helps me become over time.

"She was very encouraging. I loved that she was excited about exploring different tools. She made it clear that the art was very personal and that there was no wrong way or mistakes with your art. "

"Bindi is such an amazing talent, so kind, and a patient teacher. Really made me think about my art and gave a sense of structure while still allowing lots of freedom and ownership of your work. Bindi is a great teacher for beginners and hobbyists, especially if you want to learn in a more relaxed environment. I was always kind of intimidated by watercolor, but now I feel so much more comfortable to practice, let mistakes happen, and try something new. Also re- enforced that beautiful things come from simple things. I had such limited supplies, no prior knowledge, and by the end of one session I ended up with a really beautiful piece of art that I want to frame now."

“I can’t begin to express how happy I am to have found Bindi’s classes! After her first group class, I immediately signed up for one on one sessions! Throughout the entire process, Bindi has been so inspiring and encouraging. She has made me feel like I should keep trying and practicing, even though I normally get discouraged and quit. It’s been a very hectic/busy time for me, and I always came out of her classes calmer and excited to continue my art journey. My favorite thing I’ve learned is it never has to be perfect and to stop being so hard on myself. Another thing I enjoy is we always have a project to work on in the session, and there is a sense of achievement once we are done. Bindi is kind, down to earth, and easy to work with. I hope to continue my set journey with her, whether it’s through group sessions, one on ones, or just sending her messages for advice! “

"Definitely beyond my expectations! I loved her very unique method by using all those simple tools such as a toothbrush, old credit card, sprinkling salt, etc., etc. Just simply awesome! Even though Bindi mentioned that she was nervous, her voice was very calm and made you paying attention to what she said. Bindi's teaching style was very easy to follow. I've already been spreading the word to my friends! Go, Bindi, go! You're amazing - thank you!"

"Bindi's teaching style was a great mix of spoken and practical examples. It was really helpful to build up to the full piece by practicing with different tools and then drawing a selection of varying botanicals. It meant I could be that much braver in committing creatively to my piece and where it would take me."

Harvey H

"Bindi is amazing :) She’s calm, clear, and judgment-free, and explained everything perfectly! She really opened up a little world to me, especially with all the everyday objects we can use to make art and the beauty of simplicity. I always thought you'd have to make great things to be a “real” artist. Those great things should have super clever hidden meanings in their visuals and make an impact and become popular, but Bindi (and seeing fellow attendees’ beautiful paintings) made me realize that it’s not true. I’m not American, and I’ve never had the privilege of painting along with Bob Ross on tv, but I think this workshop with Bindi really really made me live an identical experience!"

"Awesome teacher, as I said, I learned so much in such a short period of time! Loved the way she showed examples of the tools (for marking etc), botanicals, different paintings, techniques, etc! It really helped a lot."

""I love Bindi Desai’s calm and informative teaching style. Her pleasant personality adds to the meditative feel of watercolor painting. This adds to her understanding that her students (creatives) need to be allowed to follow their own instincts as well. She led me into feeling more liberated in the way I approach my art in just one fun lesson! What a great feeling! Thank you, Bindi!"

"Kind, patient, easy to understand, encouraging, and all around lovely! Thank you So much for doing this, it is a very nice gift of creativity :)"

"As a teacher myself, I think she has a powerful tool: she's found a way of being confident and relaxed even when she's under stress. She trusts her art so much, she knows she'll be carried away once she starts creating, and then all tension will be gone."

Viviana B

She was very encouraging about having fun & being imperfect. I appreciated that she gently steered people back to figure things out for themselves or experiment when they asked specific questions (like favorite color combos). She empowered others without being too heavy-handed about it."

"I really loved her honesty. She reminded us that watercolor isn't perfect and no one knows the mistakes, only you. "

Brenna M

Holly K

"I found Bindi as a teacher to be easy to follow and someone who comfortably established a “safety zone” for creativity. She is talented and would like to see more of her offerings."

"She is very clear in her communication. I'm a very visual learner, so getting to watch her as she explains her craft was a wonderful learning opportunity.

Collin S

"Bindi has a talent for bringing you with her in her painting instruction. She is right there with you making a beautiful mess and guiding you to an adventure in watercolor! "

Lea P

“I appreciate how Bindi reminds workshop attendees that perfection is not the goal of our time together. Being recently told by a mentor that I need to learn to ‘let go and be more playful,’ I have found time in Bindi’s workshops instrumental in moving me toward this goal. I look forward to the art she teaches and the atmosphere she creates in her live and online workshops. What a fun, beautiful way to heal and grow!”

Pam L

"I couldn’t attend on the day but I watched the recording and loved every minute of it. It honestly made me erase all worries from my mind and just focus on the moment. I draw a lot (even though I’m not good at it) because of this very reason, and now I can’t wait to learn more about watercolor."

Adrijana A

"She really said everything we needed to know about the techniques and watercolors in general. Usually those kinds of classes are kind of boring but she really made it interesting and she motivated us to learn and enjoy. Great job, Bindi! "

"I loved that we just got right into the painting. I’m so used to watercolor 101 which is absolutely important to learn, but just getting into it learning a few techniques and applying them right away was fun. She isn’t your typical watercolor instructor so it was fun to learn her way. "

Lauren F

"Bindi is very relatable as a teacher, explains things well and reinforces the non conventional with support to let go and not stick to rules and watercolor techniques for more freedom of creation."

Valerie B

"Bindi's teaching style is creative, supportive and encouraging, and I was deeply inspired by her expertise and enthusiasm. I learned so much from her teaching."

Patrycja

“Workshops with Bindi are beautiful in every way. Her art is amazing. Her followers are as kindhearted as she is. Her artistic journey is sweet. All of this sets the stage for her students to experience calm and freedom as they paint. You will be happy with the time spent with Bindi as you discover watercolors again or for the first time.”
